Volunteer in the Polish-Soviet defense war of 1920. In 1923, he received his high school diploma - School of the Polish Scholar's Association Circle in Łęczyca.

Flis Józef, son of Stefan and Helena née Bawół, born February 28, 1917 in Munina (near Jarosław on the San River).

He completed high school in Jarosław, then studied pedagogy in Lviv.
Before the war, he worked as a rural teacher and from 1939 to 1941 in a construction company in Jarosław.
