Zadruga Bibliography

The bibliography lists printed works and publicly available typescripts. We assume that articles will also be included here as the bibliography develops. Within each author's output, works are listed in chronological order — by sequence of first publication. We believe this makes it easier to present the history of the influence of each thinker, especially since some works appeared much later than they were written. A note describing the content and significance of each item will gradually be added to the bibliographic descriptions.

B. Scholarly studies, popular works, and journalism

Grott Bogumił, Religia cywilizacja rozwój. Wokół idei Jana Stachniuka, Kraków 2003, Nomos.
The current standard monograph on the life and views of the founder of Zadruga. It also includes a chapter on the influence of Zadruga's ideas in Poland after 1989.

—— Stachniuk Jan, in: Polski Słownik Biograficzny.
An entry containing a concise biography of the founder of Zadruga along with a bibliography.

Kossak-Szczucka Zofia, Pod dyktandem Berlina, Warsaw 1942.
A clandestinely published pamphlet which is essentially a libel against Stachniuk, his work, and his circle. The Catholicism professed by the author (otherwise a talented writer) deprived her in this case of the capacity for objective judgment. She offers several entirely false claims (for example, that Dzieje bez dziejów was a plagiarism of Rosenberg's Mythus des 20. Jahrhunderts), reflecting an outright ignorance of the subject. The work is rarely available, mostly in academic libraries.

Koźniewski Kazimierz, Obcy — Stoigniew Bogorzeł — dzieje żadne, ale tragiczne, in: idem, Przekorni, Warsaw 2000.
An attempt — by a journalist of the PRL era and long-time collaborator of the Security Service — to describe Jan Stachniuk's ideas and activity from the standpoint of a left-liberal intellectual.

Majchrowski Jacek, Szkice z historii polskiej prawicy politycznej II Rzeczypospolitej, Kraków 1986.
The book contains brief overviews of the views of „Zadruga", „Szczep Rogatego Serca", the team around the journal „Demiurg", and the circle of Władysław Kołodziej.

Okraska Remigiusz, W kręgu Odyna i Trygława, Biała Podlaska 2001, „Rekonkwista".
A revised version of the author's MA thesis defended at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Silesia in 2000. It describes the phenomenon of neopagan movements and ideas within Western civilization (with a brief presentation of the New Right and Integral Traditionalism), focusing particularly on Poland in the 19th–20th centuries. Several dozen illustrations are inserted as endpapers.

Piotrowski Mirosław, Serwilizm czy służba idei?, Lublin 1994.
A political biography of Feliks Widy-Wirski and Zygmunt Felczak, activists who at one point in their activity cooperated with Stachniuk (notably within Stronnictwo Zrywu Narodowego). Despite the Catholic author's evident aversion to the Zadruga circle, the work is highly factual and contains much valuable material. Of particular note is its clear distinction between the political and personal positions of these two activists, who are often mentioned together and — not entirely justly — treated as a single unit.
