Anti-Valentine's Day — I don't celebrate Valentine's Day (14 February 2009)

Plakat "Antywalentynki – Walentynki nie biorę!", 14 February 2009Cultural changes caused by political and economic transformations taking place in our country have escaped the control of any ministry or government. Superficially harmless and sluggish “holiday-not-holiday” that appears on our streets and on the screens of our televisions and computers in mid-February causes a shiver of unease in soberly thinking people. Of course, the unease is about our successors, about the generation of young Poles.

Our youth has easily adopted and annually upholds, from a social and sociological point of view, an interesting "tradition". A tradition that was not passed down by the older generation, but was created by a large group of small-scale postcard and tacky souvenir sellers, supported by journalists who have NOTHING to convey, as well as producers of television series and films.

This is NOT a "LOVE" holiday, but a CONSUMER'S one!!!

And this is a consumer who is desperate and absolutely undiscriminating, meaning one who buys anything without thinking.

We reach the crux of the matter here, namely the effect of media propaganda and consumer confusion associated with February 14th. By allowing the celebration of “Valentine’s Day” to develop, we lead to burdening “young minds” with the weight of commercial experiences and the visible lack of taste among youth. Add to this that “Valentine’s Day” is actually a “holiday” without meaning! A “holiday” of love in the middle of winter (February means harsh, cold)?!? Already the distance of the creators and promoters of "Valentine's Day" (or their insincerity) from Central European reality can be felt here! Because is it not better to celebrate HOLY LOVE During the summer period, as our Slavic ancestors did, on the night of the summer solstice? Does the purchase of a flower, a small gift, or a cheap card replace genuine feelings and time spent with a loved one?

Association on behalf of the Tradition and Culture "Niklot" protests against the social approval of this amoral phenomenon, known as "VALENTINE'S DAY." We express our deep sorrow and indignation at the fact that the Ministry of National Education has allowed "Valentine's Day" to be celebrated in primary and secondary schools, which contradicts Polish and Slavic tradition.
